Software Freedom Day! November 20th of September!
Dear community members:
On Saturday September 20 we will celebrate the Day of the Software Freedom
the Universidad Centroamericana (UCA),
from 8 in the morning. This is the most important event of the year and will
held in 500 cities in over 100 countries simultaneously.
Starting today, seven-day event, we are launching a massive
total campaign to promote the event, and we need your help.
The motto is that no one is left without going to the SFD. We want everyone to be
account of this great event for the freedom of knowledge and information
.
How can you contribute?
From your home:
1. Account your family, friends, neighbors, fellow students / work
about this event. Invite them to visit www.linuxtour.org / sfd
and to register for the workshops and bring their computers to their release.
2. Tune in to radio and TV interviews in which we will
this week. Telephone calls asking about the event to
extend our time outdoors.

Why did this port?
Because we were going to make Maemo (the stack of software for Nokia devices) will use Qt in the future and we were doing a browser based on Mozilla for the N810, so now we are making this new browser version based on Qt. Before, there was a Qt port of Mozilla available. It took only 5 days to make the port. We support Mozilla and sent a team to Finland for a week.
What is the current state of the port?
The Qt port is almost all ready for your browser. For full support for Firefox, we need to implement XUL widgets, themes, and do some implementation for Flash playback support (NPAPI): works but does not draw anything.
Will support in the future?
Yes, we will support. Butler with Trolltech to ensure that you continue to give support.
What is Mozilla's interest in this?
Mozilla is interested in mobile devices. Nokia makes mobile devices, and use Qt. If you look at the mobility requirements of Firefox Qt is support.
Why Nokia is developing two browsers? This and QtWebKit
Nokia will use the best browser for the job. Currently, we can do a browser with all the features and integrated with WebKit in mobile. But with Mozilla, we need do nothing, we can use existing models and API's available. In addition, support is already NPAPI engine Gecko web rendering. They are also concerned that WebKit is to some extent controlled by Apple, who compete with Nokia with their iPhone.
The following questions are speculative, what is expected of Akademy, if the distributions include the port, etc. For the moment, there is a branch of the Mozilla Mercurial repository:
